Why Holy Fools

Holy

adj.

Connected to wholeness. Interested in the depth of human experience — that which is profound. Participants tell us, sometimes in tears, that they've never felt so cared for by food.

Fools

n. pl.

Without pretense, outside hierarchy. We play neither the ascended teacher nor the diva chef. We're open with our mistakes, we don't take it so seriously, we play. Our ease becomes permission to exhale.

Act I

The Table

Nourishment is one of our most primal routes to feeling safe. It's pre-verbal — it goes back to nursing. So the first meal is deliberately abundant: everyone learns in their body that there will be enough. A snack station stays stocked between meals. Nobody needs to scrounge.

Guests with complex diets come talk to us. We hear them out, ask what works, and hold reasonable boundaries — care without a made-to-order kitchen.

For facilitators, this is the quiet gift: participants arrive at your sessions nourished, grounded, and ready. The kitchen holds the room between your programming, so meals are a continuation rather than a distraction.

“I've never felt so cared for by food.”

— heard at nearly every event we serve
Act II

The Kitchen

We approach every meal as an offering. Field kitchens are chaos; we can't tune every variable like a Michelin star restaurant… and we don't try. Recipes guide the shopping, then we listen — to the dish, to the room, to intuition about who should make which thing.

We consciously choose joy, and joy doesn't exclude stress or sadness; it welcomes them. This kitchen cooks with what's real, moment to moment. Volunteers often arrive looking for their place at an event, and a role that matters — service as a devotional act to the tribe — opens hearts and builds confidence.

Act III

The Tour

We play multi-day gatherings of 50–300 — retreats, festivals, trainings, the occasional wedding — cooking two to three meals a day from whatever kitchen the land provides.

“Working with Enki is one of my favorite things. Communication is easy, the food is excellent and tasty (especially for a somewhat picky eater like me) and delivery of the meals is smooth and served with a big smile by the whole crew. And, more than what is expected of an excellent caterer, there’s a deeper piece that Enki and his crew offer: they bring a way to hold the participants in their process through the magic of nourishment, so that they may be held not only by the facilitators and the venue, but also by the food they ingest each day of a retreat or event.”

“Enki isn’t just a caterer—he’s a retreat facilitator in his own right. His care for the space, his intuitive approach to food, and his ability to connect with everyone involved transformed our meals into moments of grounding and connection. His leadership in the kitchen created a supportive and harmonious environment. I would work with him again in a heartbeat!”

“Enki is a true professional and huge asset for any container. In addition to providing delicious food, his leadership and energy in the kitchen supports in numerous other ways. He is positive and low-stress. He communicates well. He selects a great team that supports the energy of the container. Food is on time. And most of all, he deeply understands what it is to hold a complex, tender, transformational container, and acts as a partner in being successful on every level. 10/10.”
